Certified Green Professional (CGP)
The National Association of Home Builders' Certified Green Professional designation recognizes builders,
remodelers and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes — without driving
up the cost of construction. Classwork leading to the designation provides a solid background in green building
methods, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization leading the charge to provide
market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry.
Graduate Master Builder (GMB)
Certified Graduate Builder (CGB)
Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) and Graduate Master Builder (GMB) are two of the
top designations developed by NAHB for builders. Designations help consumers to
identify professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence. Their credentials
demonstrate that business owners and senior management have undertaken continuing
education courses in professional management. To earn one of these designations,
a builder must complete a regularly updated curriculum of industry-related topics.
Candidates for these designations are also required to pledge their commitment to
a professional Code of Ethics.
Certified Graduate Remodelor (CGR)
To obtain the CGR designation, a remodeler must meet nationally defined criteria
for previous experience, adhere to prescribed business standards, and engage in
continuing education. If your remodeler has earned the CGR designation, you can
be confident that he or she will provide professional-caliber work.
To maintain the CGR designation, all CGRs must complete a continuing education requirement
every three years. When remodelers demonstrate a commitment to the industry, they
also prove their concern for customers. Continuing education includes business-related
seminars, trade shows and courses designed to enhance professional skills. CGRs
are also encouraged to obtain other professional designations.
Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS)
The Remodelors™ Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
in collaboration with the NAHB Research Center, NAHB Seniors Housing Council and
the AARP created the CAPS program. The CAPS designation program teaches the technical,
business management and customer service skills essential to compete in the fastest
growing segment of the residential remodeling industry – home modifications
for the aging-in-place. CAPS was developed to help home remodeling professionals
meet the needs of the 77 million Baby Boomers that will reach retirement age in
the first years of the 21st century. The CAPS designation identifies remodelers
that have been trained to help retirees and older adults remain in their homes safely,
independently and comfortably, regardless of income or ability level, and continue
to live in a familiar environment throughout their maturing years. CAPS program
graduates are required to maintain their designation by attending continuing education
programs and/or participating in community service projects. CAPS classes are offered
through local and state home building associations and at national trade shows including
NAHB’s International Builder’s Show and the Remodelers’ Show.
